Organisation changes at HOST

The New Year has seen a major management change at HOST Computer Services Ltd with the appointment of Eddie Mountford as Managing Director. Eddie has spent the last 19 years as Technical Director at HOST and has been preparing for this role over the recent years. Jim Dunkley, who has been the driving force behind the success of HOST since the incorporation in 1991, has stepped aside to ease himself into retirement. We all owe Jim an enormous vote of thanks for his enthusiasm and warm generosity over the years and wish him well for the future.

CompTIA A+ (2009)

CompTIA A+ is a foundation level certification and is the Industry Standard for Computer Support Technicians. It is also part of the certification track for the major IT Corporations / Vendors. The main focus is on IT concepts and support of desktop systems. In 2009, the certification was revised and comprises two exams - an Essentials exam and a Practical Application exam.

HOST offer a 5 day instructor led course in support of each exam. S635 for the Essentials and S636 for the Practical Application. Both are competitively priced at £950.00 (ex VAT)

Available dates:
S635 22nd March 2010, 17th May 2010, 13th September 2010

VMware vSphere with ESX 4 and vCenter 4

This course is a 4-day intense introduction to virtualisation using VMware's vSphere suite including VMware ESX 4 and vCenter 4. Assuming no prior virtualisation experience, starting with the basics and rapidly progressing to more advanced topics. More than 40% of course time is devoted to hands-on practical exercises - reinforcing concepts and skills. Initial labs focus on installation and configuration of stand-alone ESX servers. As the course progresses, shared storage, networking and centralised management are introduced. The course then continues onto more advanced topics including resource balancing, high availability, back up and recovery and troubleshooting. Disaster recovery, rapid deployment, hot migration and workload consolidation are also covered.

This course is unique in its approach; which is to identify common IT pain points and clearly explain and demonstrate how virtualisation delivers immediate, tangible benefits, for example, reduced capital and operational costs, greater consistency, responsiveness, reduced administration and server consolidation. Each topic is presented from the perspective of delivering key business and economic value and not just the technical or mechanical aspects of the software. By the end of the course, attendees will have learned the benefits, skills, mechanics and best practices of virtualisation and will be able to design, implement, deploy, configure, monitor, manage, troubleshoot and secure VMware vSphere 4.
